Daily RemindersPosted by crow_soup (San Francisco, United States) on 2 June 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. You have to have a habitat, or so they say; something to depend on, to interact with, something more dependable than the human animal. Something more humane. You have to have a circle, some space to move, a place to die; As if options weren't readily availible. You have to pick your fights, choose your battles, waste your time on something worthwhile, spend it all before it's worth nothing; whatever your while is worth. You have to have a care in the world, make it look like you give a damn, like your prospects are good, like you're on the fast-track to a satisfying somewhere. Even if you're not. You have to make somebody like you once in a while, give them a meaningful word or two to choke on, a lie or more to rely on just to keep the story straight. You have to make them think you're warm and solid, that you're a good risk to take. You have to regard the beaten path like it's a trail you must travel; follow in the footsteps of those before you, even if they lead you off a cliff. It'll leave you nowhere to go but up, and the higher you get, the lighter you'll feel. You have to love your country, even if itcan't remember your name. You have to meet and greet with a patriotic shake, glad-hand the masses with a heaping helping of lip service, a dishonest hospitality. You have to grin and bear it all for the sake of appearance because the truth could cause your disappearance. There has to be an instant decision, a split second choice all of the time. You have to make the meaning matter, even if it doesn't register at all; you have to save some kind of face because even in the eye of defeat, you can't let your graces fall...
